About the Attraction

A visit to The Old Mill offers a serene and culturally rich experience. Here's what makes it special:

  • Historic Significance: Constructed in 1933 by developer Justin Matthews, The Old Mill was designed to resemble an abandoned 1880s grist mill. Though never operational, it incorporates authentic elements, including a grist mill dating back to 1828 and millstones from the early 1800s.
  • Artistic Craftsmanship: Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez employed his unique "faux bois" technique—crafting concrete to mimic wood and natural elements—to create the mill's rustic bridges, benches, and tree-like structures. His meticulous work adds an artistic charm to the park.
  • Cinematic Legacy: The Old Mill's claim to fame is its brief appearance in the opening credits of Gone with the Wind. It is believed to be the only remaining structure from the film, attracting movie buffs and history lovers alike.
  • Scenic Beauty: Surrounded by lush gardens, flowing streams, and vibrant seasonal blooms, the park offers a tranquil setting for picnics, photography, and leisurely strolls. Its enchanting ambiance makes it a popular spot for weddings and special events.

Open daily from 8:00 AM until 30 minutes after sunset, The Old Mill is free to the public. Located at 3800 Lakeshore Drive, it's a cherished landmark that beautifully encapsulates Arkansas's dedication to preserving its cultural and artistic heritage
